Looking for a quiet CPU cooler that's easy to install and inexpensive. Heat is not a concern.

Hi, I am planning on getting a Intel i3-3220 CPU (LGA 1155) and I don't want to use the stock cooler, primarily because it's too loud at roughly 40 dBA. I don't need something that is great at dispersing heat, because I won't be overclocking. I will be gaming a lot on this build, though, so of course the CPU cooler would have to be at least as efficient as the stock cooler, which is decent when not overclocking.

For this build, I plan on using the Fractal Design Define R4, which already has sound-dampening features, so that should also help with the noise.

What I'm looking for in an Intel CPU cooler is:

    ■ Quiet, around 20–25 dBA if possible
    ■ Easy to install. I heard the Cooler Master Hyper 212 series, although extremely popular, can be challenging to install.
    ■ Inexpensive. I'm not looking for something flashy. About $50 at the most is ideal.

Solution
212's are a cake walk to install so long as you can follow extremely basic instruction. That would be my recommendation.

The Hyper 212 EVO is the way to go. It is a little difficult to install, but it's definitely worth it. It's $30, and got my Phenom II x4 965 to 5GHz and could've easily gone higher. Only problem is you do have to remove the motherboard to install it, but that's a small drawback.

965 BE to 5 Ghz ?? Can I see a screen shot ? I have never heard of PII's getting past 4.5 on the super crazy custom loop side.

Okay thanks, I guess these replies help further cement the reputation that the 212 already has. I'll definitely be heading that route, then! I'm pretty sure the case I'm interested in also has the space for it.

Glad to help !. Just take your time on the install and it will go smooth as butter.
