Hello Tomshardware community

I've the following Problem: i bought a new Computer a week ago (Asus Sabertooth Z87, i5 4760K, Asus 770 GTX, G.Skill RipjawZ 4x8GB Sticks CL9/2133Mhz). the system is working perfectly exept the memory's.. if i put in my old corsair RAM's the systems works perfectly fine. If i put in my Ripjawz, i've bluescreen as soon as i start a game like world of warcraft or counterstrike. But the Bluescreens only happen with all 4 Sticks inserted, when im putting out 2 of them, the system works (with 16GB). So first i thought, ok this sticks are broken in some way, and i sent them back to the seller (all 4 Sticks). they tested the ram and said that they are fine for them, no bluescreens or any other problems...

now what to do? i've 2 opportunities

1. i can bring them back to the seller (they will refund me money) and i can buy some other memory's which may fit better to my motherboard. if i should do that, what RAM would you guys recommend me to use?

2. you guys can give me a tipp or maybe you guys know exactly what my problem is and this problem can be fixed without getting new / other RAM's

thanks in advance for your help guys

greets, tom

What actual set do have, the model #, if it is a single set (1 package) it should run under XMP if the Sabertooth's BIOS is ready for it, if not can set up manually, however if this DRAM actually consist of 2 packages of 2x8GB, then that's a whole nother story, XMP is programmed and works on the packaged set, the advanced timings required to run a 2 stick set differ from those of a 4 stick set, so if this was 2 sets of 2x8GB then they need to be set up manually....and even then they might not work, though I've had good luck doing this with GSkill sets....Even thoough this happens all the time in these forums, you still have a lot of 'experts' telling people, "yeah, but 2 sets of 2x8GB and save the $5" or whatever, the diff is between...

i would make sure that the 32GB of memory you put on the motherboard are not quad channel ready, there is difference between the quad channel and dual channel memory, some times that could cause problems, im only saying this because I have a ASUS Gene Z IV and it didnt like quad channel memory, it would keep crashing my system, and also would have a hard time booting into windows, it would freeze half way in the boot up.

And to a-urby - there is really no such thing as sets that are locked to quad channel or dual channel....DDR3 is DDR3, any given stick can run in single, dual, tri or quad as long as you have enough sticks and they will play together, if you had trouble with your Gene and a single 4 stick set, then the BIOS prob wasn't ready for it....
they do their 'testing' and the mobo default boot speed, on that mobo I believe it was 1333, so even if your sticks were on the list and say they were 2133, Asus 'tested' them at 1333, not 2133....you would have had to adjust voltages and a couple of the Advance timings, can see more on QVLs here:

I've sent back the memory's and they will refund me the money, what ram would you guys recommend me to buy with the asus sabertooth Z87 and the i5 4670K?

im a bit confused about the fact that the sabertooth motherboard only supports RAM until 1866 Mhz... what happens if i put in some 2133 Mhz RAM's? sorry im fucking clueless ^^

sounds like overheating to me, might want to either get a ram cooler or set the ram at a lower frequency, and just because the motherboard said 1866 @ default doesn't mean it won't run 2133, the board just overclocks the default to that frequency if you set it in the bios,I've had the same problem you have and that's how I fixed it. and if neither of those work then take it back and get a better heat synced ram.
