So I am planning on upgrading my Macbook model A1342 's RAM from 2GB (1GB x 2) to 8GB (4GB x 2) . I found this on ebay ( http://tinyurl.com/mr8hgh5 ) , but I was wondering if it was even possible to upgrade it to 8GB? If so, will these RAM modules I picked out work? Thanks!

Solution

Max is only 4GB with 2 slots, i.e using two 2GB modules. For max upgrade you can replace the 1GB modules with new 2GB module. For compatible 2GB memory module please click on the below link -

Good luck with the upgrade. Cheers, mate!!

Back to posting after like 5months or so. Sorry for the late reply. :hum:

If your question still unanswered then the reply is a big 'NO'. Max is 4GB for your macbook. Btw, correct me if i'm wrong I assume this your system - http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook/specs/macbook-core-2-duo-2.26-white-13-polycarbonate-unibody-late-2009-specs.html

If i'm right with the model then for proof checkout the official specs -http://support.apple.com/kb/SP579

If you need check out sites like Newegg, Amazon, Crucial, Memorystock.com.

There are numerous reports that you can upgrade to 8GB without problem. Apple stated that it can be upgraded to 4GB because at the time they wrote documentation for A1342 there were only 2GB DDR3 sticks on the market and they do not update their documentation once issued.

I am researching this as I plan to upgrade as well, although I want to put 1x 4GB and leave the other 1GB to give total of 5GB and see if OS X mavericks going to run ok. I will update this post once Ive done that.

8GB 1333MHz works!

My white 13" MacBook Unibody Late 2009 A1342 updated to OS X 10.11.6 (El Capitan) now runs 8GB (2x4GB) of DDR3 1333 SODIMM taken from my Lenovo Y570 laptop. Here are some screenshots from the MacBook:

Hopefully any brand of 2x4GB DDR3 1333 SODIMM will work for you but I suspect you'll need 1.5V memory and not 1.35V. The ones I used were factory OEM from when I bought my Lenovo Y570 new several years ago.
