I'm looking to upgrade my PC and I'm not sure which option would be better for the price. Power is not an issue at all.

Single HD7870 is always the better choice.
- Not all titles can utilise CrossfireX without problems.

All other things been equal 2 x HD7770's have less total memory throughput than a single HD7870.
- 153,600 MB/sec vs 2 x 72,000 MB/sec

The other parts of the GPUs scale equally, the HD7870 is pretty much 2 x HD7770's internally anyway

Plus it leaves the option of CrossfireX using 2 x HD7870's down the track....

The 2048 MB of the HD7870 is also better than 2 x 1024 MB of most HD7770s.
- SLI and CrossfireX have to duplicate most the data between the video RAM, so you don't actually get 2GB when Crossfire'ing or SLI'ing 2 x 1GB cards.

Finally CrossfireX of 2 x HD7770s will never outperform a single HD7870 in any workload!
- Unless there is a problem with the HD7870, and I'm assuming this is an 'all cards are working and the PSU isn't faulty' comparison.

:)

crossfire is flawed at the moment, while fps measured by fraps is increased, actual perceivable output on the monitor represents much lower fps due to stuttering, dropped frames etc. Many tests have been done on this recently by many sites including toms and have the same conclusion. So in short, avoid crossfire, get a better single card.
