Hi,
sorry if this is in wrong section, if it is someone tell me where it should go and il try and put it there.
i have a 16gb lexar JD firefly
The other night 1 folder on my usb was corrupted i didn't really think anything off it since it was one i had kinda been messing with saving programming files from school on that i may have pulledd usb out without stopping properly.
The next day it wouldn't show up in my computer at school, tried it on another computer still wouldn't show up, took it home wont show up when i look at devices it detects it the lights on the usb flash normally it says device failed to start error 10.
now it cant be a driver issue since ive tried it on multiple computers so my hardware must be damaged or corrupt.
i really want to get my data off, ive opened up the usb and there's appears to be no breaks or snaps.
ive been suggested to use easus data recovery
it detects it in partition recovery but unlike my hard drive it doesn't say the size or anything and trying to recover it brings up nothing.
would baking this thing in the oven maybe fix the soldering? or would that just make things worse?
i just need 5 mins to get my stuff off
if anyone has any suggestion pleeeeeease tell me
thanks

This should help. Go to "Start" ---> "Search" and look up diskmgmt.msc
Open this program (Disk Management)

Do you see your USB drive there? If so you can probably see that it doesn't have any drive letter assigned ( c:, d:, e: )

To assign it a drive path:
Right-click.
Choose “Change Drive Letter and Paths”.
Click on the “Change” button.
Use the drop-down menu to find a letter that you want to change your drive letter to.
Click “Ok”.

Once this is done your USB drive should start. If not please reply, and if so please vote "Best Answer".

P.S never bake any electronics in the oven, this would completely destroy it.

Baking a graphics card or motherboard would have to be done very precisely in the right temperature, and taken out completely without any plastic or wires. Over baking would destroy it and under baking wont be enough for the iron to melt in order to resolder it.

First try leaving the USB in and rebooting the laptop/pc with the USB still inside and check if it shows up in disk management. If not try this one:

Click on Start --> In search box, type cmd and press Enter.

"Command Prompt" will be opened.

Now enter the below commands

set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1 --> Press Enter

cd\ ---> Press Enter

cd windows\system32 --> Press Enter

start devmgmt.msc --> Press Enter

"Device Manager" window will be opened.

Now in the device manager, click on "View" --> Select "Show hidden devices"

Now expand all the nodes by clicking on "+" symbol.

If you find any grayed entries --> Right click on it --> Select "Uninstall".

Restart your PC --> Now try connecting your external drive.

Good Luck

i tryed booting with it in im not sure where you want me to go, and to be honest im not very keen with playing around in my bios with a faulty usb in there. :( anything else i can try?
if not then i will most likley last resort to the oven thing any idea how it would go for a usb? graphics cards are 200 for 10mins so im thinking 200 for 5 mins?

if you can help i will be forever in your debt...

I meant simply trying to restart it with leaving the usb in and see if it ends up re-installing itself when entering Windows.

There's about 7 more things you can try before baking your usb.
Try this:

ive pluged it into 2 computers at school, my desktop and my old laptop it wont work on any.
it seems to connect and reconnect a lot like its being repeatedly reinserted i dont know if its the software trying to restart and work or a connction on the usb somewhere thats not connecting right.
so you can hear the beep of windows geting devices pluged in, thats it.

Then it doesn't seem to me like there is a hardware problem. I would suggest trying the previous link, with uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling etc; the problem may be the USB but the sound indicates that it is working but isn't being recognized.

If you only want to get the data off the USB try to use a live linux distro that you can boot into and plug in the usb and see if it works on there. Also there is a program that can fix bad sectors of a usb / hard disk - the trial version will only fix the first bad sector it finds which hopefully would be sufficient in this case.

But also because Windows can tell there is something there but just doesn't recognize it, it would be recommended to try to re-install the drivers for it and give it another go. But the easiest way to get the info off would be through a linux distro which you can make a bootable usb with another usb.

Its still not working, ive tryed the selective suspend thing.
ive tried baking it in the oven 7 mins 200celsius absolutley no diference a fair few said it fixed their ram and the technology is fairly similar.
I think it may be that the connections on the usb connector are damaged scratched etc(it is regularly used for almost 2 years) so tomorrow im going to solder another usb connector thingy in its place and see if it helps.
if anyone thinks of anything else please post it <3 and thx for all the already given suggestions :)
