Hello!

I thought I'd have a go at building my own PC but I've hit a bit of a road bump. Whenever I hook up an optical drive to the motherboard and try to boot, the fans spin up for 0.5s and then the power cuts out - I still have green lights on the motherboards, but the CPU, HDDs etc all switch off. If I toggle the power on and off, the system remains in the same state. I have to disable the power and let the board drain before I can try again.

I've tried changing the power and SATA cables to no avail. I've tried using different ports on the power supply and motherboards, but still encounter the same problem. I swapped in a DVD drive from another PC, and the same thing happens. I removed the drive from the PC case in case there was a short somewhere, and that's not helped either. Finally, I tried removing other components and running with just the motherboard, CPU and a stick of RAM installed, but still no luck.

I assume the problem is a setting somewhere in the BIOS? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

System specifications:
Intel Core i7 4770K 3.50GHz Socket 1150
Asus Sabertooth Z87 Socket 1150
Corsair 16GB (2x 8GB) DDR3 1866MHz Dimm Vengeance Memory
Asus GTX TITAN 6GB GDDR5
128GB 2.5" Solid State Disk Drive Force Series GS (SSD)
2 x WD 1TB 3.5" SATA-III 6Gb/s Caviar Black Hard Drive
Corsair Professional AX860 Fully Modular 80 PLUS Platinum 860W PSU
Asus Bluray BD Combo SATA BC-12B1ST

I've still no idea why the PC kept powering off, but it turns out both of the optical drives I tried were dead. Getting most of my content digitally, I'd never noticed! I borrowed a friend's DVD drive and it worked fine and the boot issues went away.
