I currently have a 3 monitor Setup and a custom built PC running Win7.

I've been considering purchasing a Mac Mini to add into the mix. So i'd be using monitor #1 and #2 to run dual monitors on my PC, then having a mac mini connected to monitor #3 and using Synergy to share a keyboard/mouse.

Reasons I'm interested in purchasing a Mac:

1) Learning - I love Win7, but would like to learn more about Mac OS. The CPU in my PC is an AMD and I've been unsuccessful in trying to virtualize Mac OS in windows environment. I also work in IT and think having mac to play around/fiddle with would benefit me.

2) I own an iPhone and an iPad and have stored my large music library in iTunes for years. I feel like adding a Mac to the mix would make a better hub for these devices. I've also heard people state that iTunes seems to run better and has less issues on the Mac. Not sure how accurate this is, but it was a thought.

3) Not a serious developer, but would enjoy playing around with Xcode and app development.

Posted a picture above of setup I was thinking. I don't want to use a KVM and for audio I would use the Line Out on the Mac Mini to pass it through my PC connected to my speakers.

I don't really want to spend more than $700 and this Newegg combo has caught my eye: Apple Mac Mini Desktop w/ 8 GB Memory, 128 GB SAMSUNG SSD Upgrade Combo

Is this idea crazy? Any potential problems with it? Any other directions I can go? Would appreciate any feedback/suggestions.

all good... Synergy is the Easiest way (I know) to do what it is you're planning with just one keyboard and mouse

the only issue will be trying to drag and drop files from windows to mac and vice/versa

Thanks for the fast feedback. I'll probably create a shared folder to transfer files when needed
