So I'm looking for a GPU upgrade for my current 6870 which isn't fulfilling my needs atm, and I'd like to spend ~$300-350, prefer it to be closer to 300 but I have a little wiggle room. I've looked around and unfortunately the $330 7970 is now back up to 390 so that's out of the question unless it drops down again. I will be playing BF4(in the future), SC2, Crysis series, Witcher series, Bioshock Infinite, Tomb Raider, heavily modded Skyrim, Rome 2, and some others. I will be buying this GPU in around one month from now. I do prefer to have a decent cooler(Dual-X/ACX/TF/etc.) I don't really care what brand the GPU is, but at least 3GB VRAM is essential
Current Build:
i5 2400 stock
Sapphire 6870 stock
Antec 650W EarthWatts series
W7 64 bit
I've been thinking of going with either a Vapor-X 7950 or a 4GB 760, problem is there aren't any 4GB non reference 760s on newegg. I do live near a Microcenter so that is an option. Also, wondering if the 7970 will ever come down again :p(really would like a 7970 but at $100 more than a 7950 I can't justify buying one)
I will overclock but will not overvolt.
Does next console generation being AMD affect anything(optimization, most features being compute centric because of weak CPU and GCN e.g. Dirt Showdown) ?
EDIT: 1080p screen, single monitor

But that one is 2GB. Will heavily modded Skyrim and/or future games use more than 2GB? I know that certain games today already use more or close to 2GB, especially with high AA. I'm not sure if that will affect performance in the future, especially with new consoles that are probably going to use much higher res textures(3-5 GB VRAM is a lot...). I want to keep this card for at least 2 years.
EDIT: Also, is the Gigabyte cooler better than the Vapor-X one?

Unless he has a time machine that won't happen.

Yeah.. really wish I had one though :(
So is a WF3 7950 or a Vapor-X 7950 better? I couldn't find any other coolers that weren't at least $20 more(TF3 and DC2).

Yeah me too, but at least 7950 is only ~5% behind 7970 clock for clock, and with the slightly better OCs on 7970s there's like a 10% perf. difference :p
