5.1 headset or stereo headset

For casual gaming, you shouldn't need anything more than stereo. For $150, you can get much more quality out of a stereo headset. (Most 5.1 headsets aren't very high quality anyway.) For Music, I would recommend the Audio-Technica ATH-M50. Although it's slightly more than your budget, it's an excellent pair of nearly audiophile grade headphones. The Corsair Vengeance 1300, 1500, and 2000 are all excellent headphones as well. The Sennheiser HD 449 is also a very good headset for music and general listening, as is the SteelSeries Siberia. If you could give more of an idea of what you'll be listening to, then I can give more direct advice and suggestions, but for now, that's all I have. :)
