ASUS M5A97 R2.0 AM3+, AMD 970, Cross Fire, SATA3, USB 3.0, HD Audio

ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0 AM3+, AMD 970, Cross Fire, SATA3, USB 3.0, HD Audio

so what makes the LE variant a little cheaper? just wanna know if it makes any real difference which i buy

Solution
The only significant dif, LE version has one less USB 3 controller and only 2 USB3 ports instead of 4.

Please just make sure you will NOT be Xfiring or OCing on your system as neither of these boards are really capable to do it.

hmm iv read otherwise about ocing....xfire i dont really care but i v read plenty of newegg reviews of how it ocs fine....maybe not if you want to extreme 0c to 5.0 but 4.0-4.6? np from what iv read

also it has 2 pci e slots so whats the problem with xfire?

The voltage regulators are cheaper and the chipset is not OC friendly once you start adding more than 95w CPUs to it(like the FX8350).
Anyway, as for Xfire, the second PCI-e slot is only x4(should be at least x8), which very negatively effects the second GPU, the 990FX chipset boards is meant for OCers and dual-GPU setups.

great, so cant even get a deal on a mobo, always have to spend more even on that

If you do not OC then the 970 chipset is perfect, but if you wanna OC reliably, then get the 990FX chipset.
Anyway the thing is right, a good mobo and a power supply is the place to spend money on an enthusiast system.
If you provide your full budget and possibly your preferences and uses for the build, then we can help you optimize it for the best possible balance.

As a good rule of thumb you should spend half of the cost of the CPU on a mobo and twice the cost of the CPU on a GPU(applies to AMD builds, not so much Intel).

ASUS M5A99X EVO R2 AM3+, AMD 990X, SLI & Cross Fire, SATA3, USB 3.0, IEEE

this plus a 6350 instead of an 8350 would be a better choice than the 970 board in your opinion than for just gaming? keep in mind i am only doing a mild oc and do not plan to xfire

i can always get an 8 core steamroller in the near future

Perfect, that is what I would do for a gaming build. :D

from all iv heard steamrollers will be 30-40% faster than piledrivers. so perhaps i should just get the 6350 now and wait to go 8 for next gen.....which is like......soon

30%? Not likely.
But yes, that is a good way to go, the 8350 is not much faster than the 6350 in gaming.
