Firstly, I'd like to say I'm new to the community so my formatting may not be ideal and I'll try to update/edit accordingly. I've read of a few problems about Gigabyte mobo's and AMD Radeon gpu having a few issues that were similar to mine but lacked a comprehensive answer since I tried to perform the troubleshooting without much success in resolving my problem.

As stated in the title, my windows 7 issues me a warning that my GPU fails to respond after a timeout/freeze and often turns off my monitor without any sort of system recovery (I can only assume its a BSoD). I have even taken out my gpu leaving my PCI-e slot empty and relying on internal gpu but still have the same reoccurring freeze. I've tried a few things such as fresh install of windows 7 (32bit not ideal but its all I have), tweaking bios settings (includes prioritizing PCI over internal gpu and turning off internal gpu standby) and uninstall and reinstall of gpu drivers (I have not used the 3rd party app to do the clean uninstall and unsure whether or not this works). My event viewer didn't yield any concrete issues except for improper power down and not the GPU warning.

I've brought my computer into my local computer store to have it checked incase I may of improperly built my system and what not. I was told the issue was my ssd drive or windows 7 and was told specifically that my power supply and cpu (ie no overheating) are fine. So I re-seat my drives and update firmware on my ssd drive and another fresh install yet the problem I have persists (and perhaps more frequently).

System is as follows:
Mobo - Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UP4 TH
CPU - Intel Core i5-3570k cpu @ 3.40 GHz
GPU - AMD Radeon Sapphire HD 7850 2gb
SSD Drive - Mushkin chrome deluxe 240 gb
RAM - OCZ 2gb ripjaw

I'm new so I'm a little unsure how I would post a dxdiag if someone could post a link (sorry, I'm a little lazy coming to the end of this post).

TL;DR BSoD (I assume) when playing games or timeout during browsing please help; thanks.

Hello,

I am sorry to hear about your issues. After reading your post, I see that you have reinstalled the drivers for the video card. I suggest possibly rolling back your current graphics drivers. For me, I have an NVIDIA card and the latest drivers have been giving me similar issues. Once I rolled back the driver(or downloaded the next recent one) the problems stopped. To create a dxdiag log: go to your search> type dxdiag> click, "save all information" on the bottom of the window. I personally though, would rollback the drivers. It was also mentioned in the post that the motherboard and that GPU do have some issues. I would download the latest motherboard drivers to insure all your PCI/PCIe slots are operating properly. What also worries me is that you used the onboard video and got the same issues. I definitely would install the latest motherboard drivers. Also, download the latest for your onboard GPU as well. If that doesn't fix the issues, you may have a problem with your motherboard.

Hope that helps,

Chris

P.S. If both GPU's are resulting with the same issues I really wouldn't worry too much about the Direct X.

Forgive my lack of computer literacy, but how far should I rollback? I'm currently using v13.4 and the next most recent driver is v13.1 released this year and v12.10 release Oct. 2012.

Also, I have issues installing some of the mobo drivers specifically intel hd vga 32 bit and/or intel vga 32 7 series due to a lack of requirements. I've tried to using the gigabyte website download center to do it for me but receive an open device failure / open driver handle failure. I figure this is probably most related to my issue of concern but don't quite know how to work around it.

I performed the memtest overnight for 10 passes and found no issues with it. Afterwards I rolled back my video drivers to 13.1v to no avail. I'll try an earlier release and roll it back even further after a bit more testing but so far I haven't been able to resolve my issue.

I believe I managed to solve the problem. Did another fresh OS install an old hard drive with Windows 7 64x, so it was either my OS (possibly registry errors) or ssd sadly I couldn't verify which of the two since I couldn't find my old copy of Windows.
