Ok so VGA has a max output of 1920x1200 which is fine for most 1080 or 720p monitors. DVI is available in a dual link variant which can handle resolutions as high as 2048x1536, useful for high end monitors. A VGA cable with DVI is pretty much useless because you don't actually have a VGA port on your GPU...

Here's your answer:

If you have a monitor res of 1920 x 1080 or lower, it doesn't matter.
If you have a higher res than that you will need to purchase either a dual link DVI cable, a display port cable (if your monitor has display port) or am hdmi (again if your monitor has one)

Ok thanks for a very broad explanation. It made me realize that need to use my dvi to hdmi cable because my monitor is a highend one. Thanks!
