Hey all,

This year my Auzentech forte card died and I've been using my backup sound card audigy 2 while I search for a permanent replacement.

I've narrow down my list to two cards;

1. ASUS Xonar DX 7.1 (I can buy off a friend for 50 dollars - brand new condition.

2. Sound blaster Z

Speaker system: Logitech z-5500

Should I go for the Xonar DX at that price or go with the Z?

As always, your input is always appreciated.

Solution
The Z is better spec wise, though I still rock with my Xense so I can't comment personally. I've never had a problem with ASUS.

At $50? An almost as good card at about half the price? For a set of z-5500's, the DX should be sufficient.

In any case: Hook up via analog. Better to use the soundcards DAC then the one located in the speakers.

I have a 5.1 xonar dgs and a 5.1 klipsch promedia. I had an xfi before. I've heard that SBZ's are way better than anything creative has come out with lately. Without having experience with the SBZ's, I can strongly say that you cannot go wrong with the asus. Listening to lossless on my 5.1 klippers with the new card is an amazing experience, and your option is about half price compared to the SBZ!

True, that is a good point there. I just have to figure out if paying more to get the sbz is worth it.
