A couple of weeks ago, I bought an Asus N46VZ from a local retailer. I was quite satisfied with my purchase, until I found huge scratches on the case. So I claimed a brand new unit, and they said that they would install new screen and touchpad protectors for the new laptop, since I already installed them on the defected unit. When I received the new unit, I brought it home and found a tiny scratch beside the touchpad, it must be caused during the installation of the touchpad protector, but I didn't care since it's so tiny. After a 2 weeks of usage, I found major scratches on the lower right corner of the display bezel. I don't know where it came from, I never even touched that area. It took me a long time to notice because the scratches must be viewed at a certain angle for them to be seen. The laptop's subwoofer that came with every unit of Asus's N Series laptops, also has the same finish as the display bezel, rubber matte, but it didn't have scratches on it, despite how many times I bumped it on my table or wall. I suspect that they scratches were also caused during the installation of the screen and touchpad protectors. I really don't like scratches on my gadgets, they annoy me a lot. Now I'm wondering how I can claim another unit, the units that I have received from that retailer so far are all defected. How do I convince them that these scratches were already there since I received the laptop? Thanks.

I take it the laptop works fine, and the scratch does not hinder you using it.
most people would be happy.
But if it means you want a scratch free laptop, then get your money back if you can.

I suspect the warranty does not cover cosmetic things like scratches.

It`s going to get scratched at some time or another through use at some point, by yourself.

At least it works though, I would be happy with that.

At this point, it's really your word versus theirs. Your factory warranty does not cover the cosmetics of the laptop, so claiming through warranty would not be an option. It really comes down to the reseller. Most of them will allow you to exchange or return the laptop for whatever reason, as long as you are within their return period. If you are outside, though; than you're really going to have to talk to them.
