I'm looking for a replacement card for an older computer.
Retailers don't seem to mention in their "product description" or "product details" whether or not a particular video card requires an additional power input. I suppose it is the rare card that doesn't, so it would be the lack of that plug that would be noteworthy but is generally un-noted.
The easy route is to ask for a list of cards that can run off the PCIe power alone, but I'd really like to know where to find this info on my own. (however, a short list would be nice too)
Thanks.

Ayep, NewEgg is sure to inform you if you indeed require an external power source.

I think that they also have that when you look in your cart as well, if the 7750's in your cart that is. Just shows an 'overview' of the card, one of the variables being power requirements/details. (i.e. 6-pin, 8-pin, ect.)
Assuming your after gaming performance.
Right now, the only card that doesn't require its own power input that's worth buying is the HD7750, or some variants of the HD7770. Nvidia do offer low end cards that dont require power, but they are fairly horrible in performance compared to the Radeon's.

How to find this out, read reviews and look up product specifications.
For instance, this HD7850 requires one PCI-E 6pin connector, you can see it under the specifications.

Thank you. I read a Tom's review of the 7750 that mentioned it didn't require a 6 pin, that's what started me on this quest.
I read the Newegg link to the 7850 and saw the 6 pin requirement, then read a 7750 description
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121633
that doesn't mention the 6- pin.
Is it safe then to assume it will always mention the 6 pin if it is needed and a lack of mention means it is not necessary?
