upgrading from pentium 4

hi I have an intel desktop board D915GOK with a LGA775 processor socket would like to know if an intel core i3 540 3.06GHz 4M cache 2c/4T PE R310 would work

  1. No, unfortunately that processor uses a LGA1156 socket.

  2. nope.takes a different socket.given the age of the p4 you might think about a whole new rig.

    And before you ask, none of the C2D S775 CPUs will work in there either. They have the same socket/pin count, but the 915 can't supply the voltage the C2D chips needs. You need a new motherboard/CPU.
