144hz monitor question?

I am looking into getting that 144hz Asus monitor... and because I don't have the "ultimate" setup, I was wondering if I could use the 144hz for games like COD4 and CS:GO and turn down the refresh rate to 60hz for BF3 (and upcoming BF4). Would that be a viable option?

That sould be possible, yes.
But why would you go for a 144Hz monitor if you cant benefit from it?
Some games like COD4 you will probably be able to kill with more than 100 fps with the system you have there:
