Solution
I hate it how we get charged stupid prices for things over here but I'm sure you could shuffle a few things round.

Most of the items should be available in Australia and prices should be slightly higher than this, but that should be in your budget.

Spending $250 on Motherboard, $85 on cooler for mild OC, $250 for SSD and $250 for PSU is not worth is and is kind of waste.

If something is not available in Australia, post it here and I will look for a similar alternative.

One more thing, this build would be an extreme gaming / rendering / programming machine compromising nowhere. I put GTX 690 there because you did not wanted to SLI.

@charm thanks so much for your build and pointers. Things that I never really put in proportion or gave much thought to . I really want to go with the msi motherboard though and that build you have suggested I wont be able to afford over here.

@madness, I want to stick with Intel and the newest socket, I have read that just because AMD has more cores it doesn't actually improve performance compared to Haswell.

@Zac Lloyd-Jones - I really like your suggested build, the only thing I will do is go for the gd-65 motherboard over the 45. How did you go with your own build was it similar to this? Thanks for your suggestion on mwave, I've checked them out but I'm going to go with MSY (there is a store just round the corner from where I work which is good).

@Harry Turner - I have been debating with a mate whether to go with lga 2011 socket (thus using the 3970X) or for the newer lga1150. I want to go for the newer one just in case intel change things up. I realise it would be an epic processor and that intel suggest it will keep using lga 2011 for these higher end cpu's but the socket is 3 years old already which makes me wonder....

The build went surprisingly well in the first place actually. A lot better then my last build a couple of years ago, just because the edges of the motherboard and other things don't seem to be as sharp as they used to be :) haha.

I have just found out now though that my PSU has been making a horrible noise on high load. Its an OCZ Fatal1ty 750W modular. I was unable to tell whether the sound was coming from my PSU or my graphics card. My graphics card also has coil whine when its rendering between 1000 and 7000 fps, which is in some game menus. Its easily fixed with v-sync but I don't want to have to do that with a brand new graphics card. Its a Galaxy GTX 770 GC.

The parts will be going back to Mwave and hopefully I will be able to swap it for the Gigabyte version for a bit extra. Fingers crossed. I will let you know how I get on.

Well thats good to hear about it going welll, this is going to be a big learning curve starting from scratch. I have always wanted to cutom build one but have never been confident to do so. So what parts did you use in your build?

Thats disapointing but i spose there are always lil problems along the way, nothing is ever easy. I look forward to hearing how you get on.

I used:

Intel i5 4670K (a light overclock at 4GHz at 1.1v)
MSI Z87-G45
Galaxy GTX 770 GC
OCZ Fatal1ty 750W Modular PSU
Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz 8GB (2 x 4GB)
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo (keeping it cool at no higher than 47 degrees with the OC on full load in Aida64)
Thermaltake Overseer RX-1 case
Western Digital 1TB HDD Blue
Samsung DVD RW

Asus VE248H monitor (cheap and cheerful)

Total cost for parts $1600 plus postage and debit card payment fees. Postage was about $36 up to Innisfail Far North Queensland. The postage was 60% off in a sale they had.
