We will be staying at a condo with arguably less than adequate signal strength for devices. If you go out on the deck or are at the pool it works much better. I'm certain I will not be able to get any access code numbers for the signal -- all I have is the password for access. That being said, what device(s) would be recommended and at what cost?
Thanks

I'm looking for a similar solution.

My mom is in an assisted living facility. Some days, she is just barely in range of the WiFi network and some days she is just barely out of range. I was hoping for a suggestion for an extender and directional antenna. (All she wants to do is connect a Wii and an iPad, so I need to pick up a weak signal and retransmit locally.)

My best guess is to try an Amped wall-plug unit (http://amzn.com/B00BWLL9N8) or the Securifi Almond.

The main issue you have using any kind of repeater/signal extender is that this device itself cannot be located at the same location you are trying to use your end pc. It must first receive the signal before it can resend it. If it cannot get a clean signal it will actually degrade the performance.

In general these devices are optimally placed midway between the original transmitter and your end device. Most the times it is impractical to place the device there. If you would get good signal in one part of the room but not in all then you could place the device where it gets good signal but most people looking at these devices have poor signal in the entire room which mean you cannot place a repeater there.

When you cannot place a repeater at a optimum location you only other option is to try to use directional antenna either on the pc or on a bridge type box to try to increase the signal. No way to tell for sure how much increase you can get. Even with very large antenna you in real world use get only a small increase.
