Interference and UTP cabling

Here at work I have noticed significant dropouts when pinging our main server. I also noticed that one of our bundles of UTP cabling is running Parallel to a metal enshrouded electrical line for a good 15 feet.

I suspect that this is causing some pretty significant interference, but I do not know the proper way to shield the cabling from it.

What is the best way to shield this cabling? Moving it is not an option.

Solution

you need to earth it for it to properly act as shielding otherwise it will just heat up and re-emit the energy it absorbs by induction.

easiest thing to do is just solder a piece of cable to the foil and alligator clip it to the metal ties holding the false ceiling up.

I understand the kitchen foil, but not the "earth it" part. The cabling is currently run along the ceiling and is not able to be moved at this time, would simply wrapping it in foil be enough?
