I know there is a huge budget difference between the stated options, but I'm not quite ready to name a budget on this one yet- want to keep the options open. Let's say $650 or less, I can't imagine myself spending that or more- but it depends on what the draws are.

Here's my PC:
| Intel i5 750 | EVGA P55 SLI | EVGA GTX 770 SC 2GB | 2x4GB Ripjaws X 1600 | Intel 330 180GB | XFX 750W BE | CM Storm Sniper BE | CM V6 GT |

I'm currently using a 1920x1080 23" Asus 60 Hz display.

A couple of questions:
- Should I rule out 1440 IPS panels right away? They're both the priciest and my build doesn't entirely mesh with 1440 being my planned path, a 4GB GTX 770 would have been the better play in that case, no?

- If I stay at 1080p with a TN panel, I'd likely be getting an ASUS VG248QE for the lightboost hack.

- I'm ever so slightly leaning towards a 1920x1080 IPS panel, no exact model in mind. Is it dated to be looking at 1080p IPS panels?

Not that I don't play FPS titles, I do, but not as often as I play less twitch action-y titles, like MMOs and RPGs. I'd estimate the next batch of games I'm most interested in playing to be more like: Final Fantasy XIV: ARR, The Division, Witcher 3, ElderScrolls/Fallout, etc. and not so much in terms of competitive FPS titles.

I've also heard that 120Hz w/ Lightboost is not all that useful unless you are pulling 120fps or near 120 fps in card performance anyways. Well, in an MMO for example- that's just going to be incredibly unlikely in a real world situation (I get 50fps in crowded areas for FFXIV atm, with a high end card), I don't plan on SLI'ing my GTX 770 anytime in the near future. Perhaps I'm not the audience most suited for what appears to be a genuinely exciting buy for most gamers with the VG248QE?

Any thoughts/feedback appreciated.

My take is to buy the best monitor your wallet will allow.
You will be looking at it for a long time.
In particular, non shooter type games benefit from larger monitors and higher resolutions.
Your GTX770 will drive any single monitor and resolution well.
I happen to like civ 4. My 30" Samsung 305T has failed, and I am replacing it with this Nixeus Vue 30" IPS 2560x1600 WQXGA Monitor :http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CHDHE0W/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I am hoping it will do as well as the 305T because the same unit from dell or HP will cost $1100.
If the price is too high, look for a 2560 x 1440 ips 27" monitor.
or... seiki will launch a 39" 4k monitor for $700.
Sears will be the first to have them...

It is not clear to me if that unit will support 60hz at 4k resolution, or only 30hz.
I have seen the 50" version at compusa, and it is magnificent.
I may buy one anyway.
Any of these monitors will have ips panels with 178/178 viewing angles.
Keep your old monitor for email etc, and game on the new.
