I need hints to know where is my computer problem, if anyone can help. I was using the internet (facebook and gmail) when my computer froze and after reset no screen showed up, not even the BIOS. The computer worked fine for about 6 months with BF3, Skyrim and The Witcher running on max and it stopped working while doing nothing. Temperatures never got past 70ºC on video card and past 80ºC on processor.

Computer specs are:

  • ■ Intel Core i7 3770
    ■ ASUS P8B75-M LE
    ■ GIGABYTE GEFORCE GTX 660 Ti 2GB GDDR5
    ■ CORSAIR TX650
    ■ 2x Corsair 8GB DDR3
    ■ Samsung 500GB HD

I performed the following tests to see if it would boot, all of them led to no results

    ■ Removed and then inserted memory, video card, hard drive and all of PSU connectors again
    ■ Tried to boot with only 1 stick of memory. As my mobo only has 2 RAM slots, I tried to boot it with only 1 stick in one slot then on the other one. Switched the stick and did the same thing.
    ■ Tried to boot without the external video card, plugging the monitor on the mobo
    ■ Plugged a speaker to see if I could get any warning. With a video card it beeps once every 4 seconds, couldn't find an answer.
    ■ Tested with a diferent video card and obtained the same beep and no video
    ■ Tested my hard drive on another computer as master and as slave and both modes worked
    ■ Tested my PSU by powering up another computer and it worked fine as well
    ■ Cleared the RTC maintained by the CMOS battery both by moving the mobo jumber and removing the battery
    ■ Mounted the computer on cardboard to check if the case was not short circuiting it.

Sometimes when it is turned on the screen keeps black but computer appears to be running. It also happened to power it and it would automatically turn off after 4-5 secs then turn on again.
I couldn't test the memory on another computer, but I find it very unlikely that both would break at the same time. I need help because I think it is (and appears these are the only options) the mobo or the processor, but I have/don't know a way of testing them.

Thank you very much.

It does sound like you need a new motherboard.
If you still have the receipt at 6 months old you should be able to get a free replacement.

What are the odds of the problem being on the motherboard? Because as you're saying looks like a chance of 90% that it is. I just wanted to make sure before sending the mobo to the retailer, but there is no way of knowing without having another computer to test the processor, right?

Pretty much. I would say 95% its the board. Just hope it didnt damage the processor too. Yes, you will need to test on another board.
