So I thought my motherboard was just dead but newegg informed me that the cpu socket pins have been bent. Is there anything I can do or try? And if the cpu socket is bent could my cpu also be damaged? (I5 3570k) Any tips on how to possibly fix this would be great before I go and buy another motherboard. Thanks ahead of time.

Solution
Can take a couple of razor blades and put one to either side of the bent pins and squeeze them gently together, then do same at a 90 degree angle, I carry blades in my tool bag for just that purpose and you'd be surprised how often I use them, big thing is check for any broken off missing

I'm not sure yet as I havent received the mobo back yet. I don't remember noticing anything so it can't be too horrible. What are the chances of it actually working when and if I bend them back?

Yup. That is exactly what they did. So in turn I will probably never purchase another item from newegg again due to the 3 weeks of waiting for a response and then this. Thanks so much for the help man.

Oh I see what you mean. Okay thanks so much man and does this usually work for you? My motherboard had its lights on and everything but the cpu, heatsink, and fans just didn't react when I hit power. I am hoping that I can realign the pins and avoid buying a new one. So long as nothing is broken off or cracked I should be good right?

yeah i straightened them all up but a few of the bases seem to be gleaming and i don't know why. Possibly angled upright but the cpu isn't booting up. Looks like its time to buy a new one :(

Yep tell them that's how it was when you got it, when they say Nay, ask if they are in the habit of selling defective merchandise? They will prob say no, it the manufacturer, to which you reply Nay, Nay - I bought this from you, you are responsible, and it's your responsibility to deal with the manufacturer, not mine....If they persist, ask why they RMA and exchange defective mobos for others but won't for you - that's generally enough, if not ask for a supervisor

Hey I have another question. I was testing the newly bent motherboard pins back in place with just the cpu, heatsink fan, and 1 stick of ram with the fan plugged in, the 24 pin power connector and the cpu power connector. The thing is that I actually didn't put the heatsink all the way on. I just simply placed it on top of the cpu and plugged in and I was still getting no result. Do I actually have to put the back plate back on, screw in the heat sink fan, and then try to turn it on? To make a long story short do I have to completely install the cpu fan for it to be recognized and therefore give me a result? I am worried that by not completely installing it I am not getting a response when I should be.
