Intermittent Ping when using internet intensive programs.

I have a rather bizarre problem with intermittent ping on my wireless network. The disconnections last from 1-2 seconds to over 30 seconds in length and occur randomly, sometimes 5 a minute, sometimes 1 every 30 minutes. The disconnection gets much worse when I am gaming, but is not so bad when I am torrenting/watching videos. (for example, I can have 5-10 minutes of undisturbed ping, and then the minute I start playing a game, the intermittent time outs start appearing again).
- I've never had a problem with internet on this computer before. In fact, about 8 months ago I was able to connect to this exact router perfectly fine without tweaking anything.

Some more details:
- There are about 6 devices in my household that use internet through my router, and only ONE of my PCs has this problem.
- Pinging at higher bytes (i.e 500) seems to make the problem worse
- AT NIGHT, i.e. after 11pm, the internet problems seem to get better.
- My computer says the internet connection is at max signal, and using the diagnose feature says there are no problems.
- Resetting the router back to factory settings solves the problem temporarily, but it usually returns after an hour or so. Similarly, the internet functions pretty well for 5-10 minutes when I restart my computer, and then it gets progressively worse from there.

Solutions I've tried and have not worked:
- disabling my firewall/antivirus
- Running malware sweeps with windows defender, avast, and combofix.
- updating/downgrading/reinstalling drivers for internet adapter and router
- securing/unsecuring my network, disconnecting all other devices
- restarting the computer in safe mode with networking seems to help a little, but the time outs are still there
- setting power use to 100% on my wireless card
- setting a static IP address

Some help would be really appreciated as this is really frustrating. Thanks!

edit: My wireless adapter is an ASUS PCE-N15, my router is Trendnet TEW-639GRv1, and I am running Windows 7.

****UPDATE****
I thought this was a problem with my wireless adapter so I purchased a new one. While the new adapter improved my situation (the connection losses are shorter), the exact same problems had still reappeared. I tried some more fixes and none of them worked:
- uninstalling my antivirus/turning off firewall
- playing around with Router settings
- running system checks on hard-drive and ram
- running registry fix programs
- updating windows

A new event occured today:
I was monitoring my internet through pings are usual, when the usual disconnection occured. A yellow "limited access to internet" icon appeared over my wireless connection (this is the first time this has happened). My computer started making a ton of noise like it was doing some heavy processing, and then the entire system froze and I had to reset it using the power button.

I'm starting to be convinced that this is a hardware problem. What are some potential steps I can do from here?

Try using a different channel for wireless. A clue here is that things work better late when others in your area tend to stop using wifi devices and phones, etc... that can cause interference. What wifi are you using? G, N, B? Using mixed mode setting? If you are, and you have only devices that can use G or N, use that spesific mode.

A good tool to try is inSSIDer, I use it on my Android phone to pick out the best channel to set my router at, it's also handy in other wifi areas like business that offer free wifi but the signal is weak. You can run it and then have them change the channel to one with less interference.
