Alright my plan is that I'm selling my old pc but I'm wondering if I should just sell it with windows 7 and buy a new copy for $90 or
Should I uninstall windows 7 from the old computer, burn it to a cd, save the $90 extra for the GPU and CPU, and install Linux to the old computer.

Solution
If your old computer is a "store bought" like dell, hp, etc., the o/s is married to the motherboard and cannot be transferred.

If you built your old pc, and bought a RETAIL version (not OEM) of W7 for your original install, you can uninstall it from the old pc and reuse it on the new pc.

Depending on the age and condition of your old rig, I would probably just keep it as is, but put linux on as a dual boot machine. Then you would have a backup W7, just in case you have issues with the new rig.
