First off, I KNOW this is one hell of an ask, because the chances are you guys definitely do not have the same motherboard as me, but MAYBE, just maybe asus motherboards all have the same bios.

Anyway I am going to get a sound card in around 3 days time so I was just looking in the bios as to how to disable my onboard sound. (I have an asus p8z68-v pro gen 3 motherboard).

So I went into advanced and the only option relating to audio that was there was 'hd audio manager'. The 'manager' part threw me off a bit.. To me that does not sound as though it is my onboard sound.

Is there anyway I can cut corners here and disable my onboard sound without having to go into the abyss of the bios!? I don't like the bios. It's scary.

You really don't HAVE to disable your on-board sound if you don't want to. Just plug your speakers into the new card and move the front panel audio cable to the header on the new card. Then go to control panel/sound/playback and be sure you have the new card set as the default device.

Besides, disabling it in Windows simply means that Windows won't know it exists. It still will be on. You have to enter BIOS to actually disable it. But as I said, you don't really need to.

clutchz, smorizio, i owe you one guys, thank you very much, i still think it is a bit obtuse though, it could be titled flat out onboard soundcard or something.

as for the front panel type and SPDIF out type though, should i just leave whatever those two things alone?

If you want your FP audio to work, you will need to move the FP connector from the MB's FP Audio header to the card's. The MB header is no longer functional after disabling the onboard sound in BIOS.

So that is just if i wanted to stick my headphones in at the front of my case? I am going to stick my headphones directly into the soundcard i am getting though, does that mean i just leave those settings as they are? I really could not give a damn about my front pannel case connectors, never used them and never will, lol
