I've had a cutom built computer, with Windows 7, for six months. I recently got internet a couple of weeks ago. I have no idea what I'm supposed to do with computers and this computer can't connect to the internet. What am I doing wrong?

I'm using a Century Link modem and an ethernet cable, but it's not showing up on the computer.

Put the disk in and look for the LAN driver. It might be called internet driver, ethernet, or something like that. Install it in Windows, and in a few seconds or so, Windows will walk you through choosing what kind of network you have. Choose Home.

Okay, now I'm on the internet with the computer. It's telling me that I need updates for windows and Norton Internet security. I have these instruction booklets for the graphics card, motherboard, and the wifi adapter.

Do i need to do anything with these? It says installation disc.

Lets forget that other stuff for now. You can't update those until you get online anyway. Don't run the whole disk, just look for the LAN driver. Run it to install the driver. When its done, you can eject the disk and put it away.

Yes it's been working for a week now. It has some occasional mishaps, but it works like a charm. Thanks :)
