Ok, so I am building s computer for my wife and I am going to give her my AMD 955 and mobo which has 8 GB Ram. She does not need anything fancy, just something for MS Word and such. Here is my question, I am going to get 8GB more ram and was thinking about going with 2133 on the new mobo(http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157281).
The timings are slowing on the 2133 but the frequency is higher. If I just get 8GB of 1600, I can take 4 GB from my current system and that would give me 12GB and her 4, which is more than enough for what she is going to do. Not sure which way to go???

Solution
With that set you gain bandwidth and that's it, basically not much different than 1600 at CL9, for a performance gain w/ 2133 will want (preferably CL9) at least CL10, otherwise throwing money away

Hello:hihi:

I do not recommend the memory upgrade above 8GB if the system is used only for MS word and basic stuffs with nothing much of memory intensive tasks. 8GB should be fine for almost all purposes unless you are doing rendering, editing, 3D involving large data sets then 16GB is considered.

Mixing speeds, brands and different sets of memory is not a bright idea so i'd stick with the same speed. So if you need higher bandwidth memory then go with 1866MHz for stability or maybe 2133MHz but do not mix memory.

Lego's right, not a good idea to mix sticks, period, and especially not freqs. 8GB of 2133 will prob make you happy, it's a big jump from 1600 if you deal with large data sets, video, imaging, VMs, CAD, GIS, etc....if not something like 1866 with a CL of 8/9 would be good.

I was not going to mix frequencies. From my past experiences, I have mixed many different brands and never had a problem. I will probably get the 1600 and leave my wife with 4GB and put 12GB in mine since I am a heavy gamer.

One more question, The 2133(http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=20-231-519&SortField=0&SummaryType=0&Pagesize=10&PurchaseMark=&SelectedRating=-1&VideoOnlyMark=False&VendorMark=&IsFeedbackTab=true&Page=3#scrollFullInfo) is cheaper than the 1600 but the timings are slightly higher. Which would be the better choice?

So if the 2133 is cheaper then just get that since it will perform about the same. The same sticks of 1600 are like five dollars more.
