I currently run a prebuilt rig with a i7 - 860, Radeon 5770, 8 Gig of ram and windows 7. I use the 5770 to run 3 27" monitors at 1080p and i find the games run while still in ultra i feel they could be better.

This is my question. Im trying to decide if i would be better suited upgrading my entire system or just buying a new GPU like a 660 TI? and waiting For instance if i were to upgrade i would be buying the i5 3570K and a new motherboard and OS (Remember its prebuilt with only 1 PCI and so i cant Crossfire or SLI and cards as well as id have to buy windows again)

What rig would run games better?

i7 - 860 (Hyper Threading)
8Gb of ram
1X GTX 660 TI 2GB

OR

i5 3570k (no hyper threading)
8gb of ram
2X AMD HD 5770 in Crossfire

Im just torn because my rig now i never run out of power but im pressed against a wall because of the 1556 socket and only 1 PCI slot and having to buy windows if i swap motherboards. And i could always buy the 660 now and use it in my future builds. Just wanna know what would give me the best graphic performance Thanks guys

What I did was get a new gpu and psu for the old rig, then once I had more money and my performance was dropping I went for a new rig. I would say upgrade the graphics for now, you might need a new psu. Later on if you need more performance go for the new system. Getting a 660 TI or a 770/780 would be the best bet here.

Would the motherboard limit the 760? because of the PCI 2.0 and no 3.0?

All versions of PCIE x16 are backwards compatible. So a PCI e x16 3.0 can run on a express x16 1.0 slot if you needed.
