Hi there - I'm tossing up between the Samsung 840 and Samsung 840 pro...

Besides the spec improvements of the pro, the standard 840 comes in a kit with saga cables, cloning software, adaptor, and sata to USB cable.

My question is what do I actually need to upgrade? If I buy the pro version, and then an adaptor case, sata to USB, and download the software for cloning off Samsung, do u need the sata power and data cable, or is this just for desktops?

Also, does the l502x support the sata 3 6mb transfer speed?

Obviously I'm a complete newbie, so any help is much appreciated.

Rya

- Not have to go with pro, but if u got the money the pro has better spec than the non-pro...
u can buy the kit separately, In my country the bundled kits is rare/none so i have to buy external enclosure/cable separately..
(it also better if u buy external usb3 enclosure than just a cable + adaptor)

- I don't know if u can dl it from samsung, but there a lot other cloning/backup program u can use (Free or paid ones)

- Not sure about sata3, but if the lappy using "Mobile Intel® HM67 Express Chipset" it can have up to 2 sata3....

Hi thanks for the reply.

As I'm a newbie - could u detail exactly what I would need to buy?

They don't do the kit for the pro over here either :-(

I would like the pro - saves updating in the future - but need to know exactly what I would need besides the 3.5 - 2.5 adaptor.

Do I need the sata cable? As vids online show the sad just plugging straight in?

Sorry for being a thickish! Ha ha

Cheers ryan

first lets make clear if dell l502x was a note book?

The only thing u need is the external 2.5 hdd enclosure preferred the USB 3/e-sata ones, usb3 is cheaper than e-sata ones
(don't go with usb 2) also go with a good brand since some are overpriced junk...

plus cloning/migrating programs/apps.... (this program will determine if it hard or easy)

u just install the ssd on the enclosure,, clone/migrate the OS, uninstall/remove the ssd from enclosure, replace the hdd in the laptop with the ssd....

the hard part is the "clone/migrate the OS"... it will depends on the apps used..

edit: try borrow win/OS installation disk, it can be used to repair bot manager error
that sometimes happen when migrating/clone OS

also as long as the HDD is untouched (not formated/cleaned/deleted) u can always retry the process if something goes wrong

It came with windows 7 but I downloaded windows 8 - from Microsoft website as an upgrade. Only windows 7 disc I have is what came with dell machine.

It has the intel i7 2630qm CPU @ 2.00 ghz
Also has 8gb ram
X64 based processor and 64bit op system.

So I need to buy one of these?
