Hi everyone i would like to know how and what it would cost to get about 500 people connected a single network.I know nothing about networking but i wonder is it possible like to have people in different houses conected to one network and each having enough network coverage like the rest?

Solution
You could add:

1) Do they remote access?
2) Do they need to all be in the same LAN?
3)See#2 if yes what is your buget? If no What is theirs?
4) How will you separate 500 users? Individually or in groups?

This sounds like a dorm, go talk to the Computeer engineering students : )

Is it possible? Sure.

But your statement "I know nothing about networking but..." would indicate that you need to talk to someone local who does know about networking.

Where is this? What will it be used for? Does this network also talk to the outside world (internet), or is it internal only?

For starters im from south africa in a township and if you can tell be bout the gadgets needed that would also be nice.I mean to check and consult who do i talk to?i mean its somethin that me and my team want to try....what kinda cables, network and accessories to acquire for this to be possible.I want it to be like an Area where connectivity is everywhere and wireless hotspot are just around the corner.

You have to decide how much you want to spend first. Are you willing to dig up the streets to run fiber to everyone's house or do you only have enough to let a user work if they sit outside in direct view.

Best bet is to call get in contact with a cable tv provider or a cell phone provider. Both can offer you solutions. How you pay for it will be up to you. The standard method is people that want it pay the costs...of course if you are the city itself you could place a tax on everyones house and pay for it that way.

1) Will you buy your bandwidth from?
2) If it is from an existing provider you must be sure the plan you buy allows you to distribute it legally.
3) If you must buy a CIDR(Committed information Data Rate) what are the prices per month? Such as 100M/100M
4) How do you plan on distributing it to each home?
5) Wireless would let this happen much quicker what frequencies are allowed? 900MHz,2.4, 3.5, 4.9, 5.4 or 5.9GHz?

There are so many more questions..... Answer the above questions and it will point us in the direction for your solution.....

I helped design and run a Wireless ISP and know the wireless business very well. In the US digging fiber to each home can be a nightmare with all of the regulations and requirements here. I would be willing to bet a wireless network could be set up in less than a month provided you have towers and or a high distribution point with in 5 kilometers of each other. The after setting up the infrastructure one person could intall 3-4 homes in a day easily, more if they were next to each other. Can you provide GPS coordinates? I would love to help!!!
