What is wrong with my computer?

I have been trying to fix my own computer for a few days now. I determined (or so I thought) that it was my motherboard. I ordered another motherboard, since mine was out of warranty, to try and fix the problem. When I got the other motherboard, it did not change anything. I then tried another power supply, again, to see if it would change anything. Again, I did not successfully repair my computer. I have removed all my components down to simply the motherboard and the processor hoping to get at least an error code. I did not even get a beep. So my question; is my processor bad or is it something else?

My system information:

MOBO: ASRock H61M/U3S3 && ASUS P8B75 (new one I bought)
Processor: Intel core i3 2120 @ 3.3ghz with basic heatsink that came with processor
RAM: G Skill Ripjaws 4gb DDR3 x2 @ 1600
Power Supply: Corsair CX500 && Corsair GS750 (one from a different computer)

Things not used when testing after initial problem:

360 gb HDD @ 7200RPM plugged into a 3gb/s sata port
90 gb SSD plugged into a 6gb/s sata port
CD/DVD burner Sony optiarc 24x plugged into a 6gb/s port

True, but he had no picture, even with a PCI-E Graphics card plugged in. Otherwise would have thought about that :D

But that list is defo a good checklist, it accounts for pretty much most of the user errors, if not all.

This one is an easy mistake: :lol:

22. If you have integrated video and a video card, try the integrated video port. Resetting the bios, can make it default back to the onboard video

But yeah as fkr suggests go through that list, if all that fails, i'd say its the CPU. :)

The computer starts up. The fans run but no post. I tested the ram, removing each one and replacing it with the other and even removed them both. Still no post beep error messages. What is wrong with my computer?

Okay, I am pretty good with computers so I did plug in the 8 pin cpu connector; otherwise it wouldn't have started at all. Also, my computer has onboard graphics. It does have a secondary graphics card, but I tested the computer without the graphics card and with it. I reseated it a couple times before completely removing it. I ruled that out when I removed it and nothing changed. Also, I started testing it without the video card on the new motherboard, which would have a completely cleared cmos. Beyond that, what could be the problem?

If u'v done everything else then I can only suggest it *may* the cpu. Have you checked for any bent pins on socket as I know someone else who has this problem and it was due to a bent cpu pin. Its just a thought!

So the Computer powers on, fans run, but nothing on screen? no picture? and no beeps?

You got the speaker connected to motherboard for the beeps? It goes along with the pins for the power/reset button etc..

(I know some boards used to provide one, atleast my old one did.) Dont use one on my current build

Okay I'm replying to all of you in one reply. The CPU has plates not pins, so switching the motherboard to a new one would solve that. Next, the pins don't just bend all of the sudden when the computer has been running for over a year now. Also, the testing was done outside the case when I tested it after I knew there was an issue. Lastly the speaker is definitely connected. I've done my best to cover all bases. Any other questions?

M8 all that we are doing is offering you solutions which we have come across within our life span. If you don't like em then tough - no need to get sarcastic. You also FORGOT to mention that the pc had been running for a year or so which begs the exact same question "how can you confirm it is NOT yr cpu"!

Ok, roundup.

Powers Up,
No Picture,
No Beeps,
Tried Both New & OLD Motherboard - No change
Both PCI-E & integrated Graphics card Tested on Both NEW & OLD boards.
Changed to different PSU
I figure that with either:- HDD, DVD Drive, Ram, the Bios should atleast appear.


I'd say it's the CPU, as integrated Graphics requires it. I just find it weird that theres no Beeps.

But yeah my moneys on that :)

you are getting down there in options now and I have felt your pain.

power supply: good
you have used a known good power supply

RAM: good
what are the odds that both sticks just die

expansion cards pci:
none installed

HDD: ?

CPU:
does not work in either board

motherboard: probably not the issue
no beeps but you have tried a replacement

take your CPU to a local shop and give the guy $10 to plug it in and see. they will many times do this type of stuff for free if they have a good setup in back.

I didn't mean to sound sarcastic. I was simply mentioning the info I had missed. I wanted an answer and have been working hard to fix it, which frustrates even the most experienced tech specialist. I just want to get the info out there. Since many people have said its probably the processor, I am simply gonna go through with my warranty application through intel

Received my CPU today and she booted right up! But found out I fried my motherboard and slave drive >.< going to start backing up on external now...thanks to all who responded!!
