Alright guys. I have a few questions here. Need some advice about SSD, HDD, and how i should set my system up.

I currently have a pretty good rig, I would say. My storage setup is currently
60gb SSD, OCZ vertex 2
1TB HDD, Hitachi 7200RPM drive

QUESTION ONE:
I have done a ton of research and I believe the best SSD and HDD you can get for a reasonable price are the samsung 840 PRO 128gb, and the Western digital black 1TB.
Is that about right? If not, please give me thoughts on fastest/most reliable/ best warrantied drives

QUESTION TWO:
Will I notice a large speed increase by switching to this sort of setup?

QUESTION 3:
I only use about 50gb of my current ssd, and like 80gb of my current HDD. I do not download stuff much at all. Should I just get the samsung 840 pro 256gb and no HDD at all? Will there be a big speed difference? any SSD outperforms an HDD, but i read the 256gb Samsung has significantly faster speeds than the 128gb version.

So all in all.
Best SSD? (for speed/reliability)
Best HDD? (same)
128gb samsung 840 pro and 1tb wd black?
256gb samsung 840 pro standalone?

I am for sure doing a new build. I just dont know which route to go. and I hope it outperform my sata 2 vertex 2 and hitachi.

I work at tigerdirect and have I have a pretty good knowledge of all of this, but I havent tested it firsthand. I can only go off of reviews, knowledge, and presumptions

Current build:
phenom x6 1055t---stock cooler
8gb 1333mhz patriot gamer ram
Some cheapo gigabyte MB
thermaltake v2 case
gigabyte 550ti 1gb
corsair 850 tx psu
1tb hitachi 7200rpm
60gb vertex 2
cheapo dvd drive

New build
Asus p8z77 PRO
i7-3770k----coolermaster hyper 212 evo cooler
8gb of 1600mhz G skill ripjaws X 8-8-8-24 ram
corsair hx850
EVGA 660ti 3gb
corsair 600T gunmetal silver edition
SSD HDD?
MSI dvd drive

Looks like you know what you are doing. Samsung 840 is a good SSD. I'm using it currently. You will notice a huge difference between SATA 2 and SATA 3 connections on both the SSD and HDD. WB Black is also probably the best bigger drive for the money. Cheers

yeah im just debating if i should spend 150ish on the 128gb samsung 840 pro and use it as my core drive, and buy an 80 dollar WD for everything else.

Or if i should buy a 256gb samsung pro, which is faster than the 128gb model, and after tax and what not, the same price as the combo i listed.

Im worried about having ONLY an ssd as my drive. Not because I will fill it up. I will probably only use 150-200gb of it. The thing is though, as a primary drive, I will be writing and reading from it a lot more. I know it only has a certain amount of writes, as it is an SSD

I guess the real question is, is having ONLY an ssd bad for longevity purposes? I figure the average person hardly even writes to the ssd enough to make it die within a 5-10 year period, and i probably write just a bit above the average person

Seeing as Read/Write is continuous on an operating system I would go for the 256 SSD. Life of SSD's are about the same as an HDD so just make sure you have a good backup system in place. I started with a 128 and found quickly I needed more space. When theres a good sale on a 1TB drive I would also get that down the road.

yeah, because SSDs have a lower failure rate all together and have less things that can ruin them such as static and slight drops. I think I will just go with the samsung 840 pro 256gb to get the maximum speed and efficiency for the longest time. If I need to, I will get a nice 500gb or 1tb HDD on sale later on when I am running low on space in my computer. Or by that time, they may have sata 4 with 1tb SSDs for 200 bucks.

Im pretty sure I got it figured out now

STILL WOULD LOVE MORE OPINIONS THOUGH
best ssds, hdds, and system configs? Opinions?
