Hello all,
I have an older PC.
msi ms7509
amd athlon x2 5000
radion 2400 pro
2 gigs of ram
200g hdd

I was running win 7 fine. My friend to me to switch to win xp 64. So i did, but it's slower now than with windows 7. So should I go back to win 7 or explore win 8?

Used for surfing web music and light gaming. I'm making the switch from console to pc so I'm going to be asking a lot of questions. I'm going to build a pc eventually but that's later down the line. For now I have this to work with. Thank you very much for your time.

this is true. but i do need to add... that win8 isn't for everyone. most people rather despise the interface, so there is a learning curve.

I think the important thing to remember here, is your friend who downgraded you from win7 to xp isn't someone i would ever listen to for computer advice in the future. Windows xp/7 in x64 form really needs more then 2gb of ram to work right. Someone who knows what he's doing wouldn't make that mistake (winxp also tends to run slower then windows 7, as long as the computer meets the min requirements of each). Windows XP isn't really the OS you want for x64 build... frankly, unless you have 4gb of ram or more, i wouldn't even suggest win7x64 over win7x86 (32bit)... as the 64 bit version of win7 is known to be a little less stable then the 32 bit version.

Reformat, put win7x86 (32bit) back on, and look into a better video card. they're pretty cheap these days, and it will breath new life into that old machine.

I will be trying 8 if I don't like it back to 7.
Thank both of you. i'm still trying to learn about this world.
