Which temperature is correct?

Having recently bought a new computer, I have been checking out its performance with various software and have found a curious discrepancy concerning the CPU core temperatures.

For example, currently CPUID Hardware Monitor is displaying temperatures between 49 and 52 Celcius for the four cores (and 51 for the package), but Piriform Speccy 64 is displaying temperatures between 61 and 64. This appears to be a consistent difference, with Speccy higher by roughly 10 degrees.

Any idea why (at least) one of these is so wrong? (I'm hoping it's Speccy!)

Piriform Speccy 64 might be reading the socket temp which is usually about 10 degrees higher in most cases. socket temp is sometimes labeled by CPU Temp.

If Speccy is specifying core temp at that range, you might want to go post on their bug forums. Try a few other temp monitors and see how they compare, if Speccy is way above them (say by more than 1-2 degrees) then it is probably Speccy
