I just got my new rig and im wondering on how to check its all working fine for now,I have a FX6300(Black edition vishera 14mb) with stock cooling
and it seems really hard to get an accurate reading on the temps of the CPU

I tried core temp/hwmonitor and AMD overdrive

Overdrive obv shows core temps and under 90% load it peaks at around 47c which seems accurate

Core temp always shows an inaccurate low temp when idle or low load(15-20c) and will peak at 50ish when under 90+ load (i know that under low load its inaccurate on amd chips) never once seen it go over 60C

Hwmonitor seems to make no sense to me whatsoever,Under FX6300 package it says im ideling at 15 and hits 50ish near full load

theres 3 other temp readings TMPIN0/1/2 and they seem broken,

TMPIN2 seems the most likely to be an accurate measurement as it s around 25-30 at idle and 50-55 at load. However it sometimes has minimum values of -84c and max values of 127c(faulty sensors maybe)

After having my system on doin general browsing/music ect i reset my system and checked the bios and the cpu was at 37c(perfectly fine)

AMD overdrive and Coretemp both clock my Cores all at 3817mz at max load, and my case is very very cool to the touch, zero heat coming off it

I havent had any issues in the 3 days i had the System, but i want to make sure its all working fine before i install my GPU that should arrive tomoz for gaming

Any tips for an accurate/consistant measurement of temps?

(edit: my current Mobo is a Gigabyte 78lmt-USB and im using the VGA out from the mobos integrated graphics for display for now)

Solution
Its a rather basic case, buts theres plenty of room and air flow, the case has 2 extra fans inside, the big one at the back only comes on when im near full load for an exteded period of time.As i said before my case feels nice and cool and puts out a nice breeze of cold air :D

Ambeient temp today is around 25c(In the Uk and today is pretty warm for where i live)

For some reason in the last hour the hwmonitor program registered a max temp of 255c on the package although i was doing no cpu intensive tasks and and my system never acted like anything funky was happenin.During that time Coretemp didnt read any temp exceeding 45c on any cores/cpu

again i have had no indication with something being wrong performace wise, but its a new system...
So, the somewhat related questions: What is the ambient (room) temperature? What case, and how many case fans are you using (and where are they installed)?

Reading temperatures is tricky business, and let me explain the main why why it is. When it comes to CPU temperatures, there are essentially two sensors: the socket sensor ("CPU temp") and the on-die sensor ("Core temp"). The socket sensor is great for reading idle temps, however, it is on the motherboard proper, so there is a bit of actual difference in temperature that it is reading. The on-die CPU sensor is the opposite, it is supposed to provide accurate data at full load, and gives weird (usually lower than ambient) readings when idle. This is because the on-die temperature is altered by what I am going to call a weighted equation to provide accurate temperatures. You can read about it on the AMD forums.

As for the other temperature readings... Those are from other sensors, somewhere, on your motherboard. Each motherboard brand is different.

again i have had no indication with something being wrong performace wise, but its a new system and wanna make sure everything is ok,with getting extreme variations in temp readings makes me a little anxious(sometimes hwmonitor shows min temps of -84 and max temps near 200c for an instant which has to be immposible) I have incling its just software being a little glitchy mayb because Coretemp seems to be extremely consistant at idle it claims 15C and at load it claims it to be 45-50c (Im positive that core temp is 15c off on idle/low load)

I jumped into the bios and turned off turbo boost(Just to be safe and i dont really need the boost at the moment and is turned on by default apprantly) and that put me down to 3.5 from 3.8ghz and idleing temps seem to be around 30c,which is almost the exact same as with it turned on.

Solution
I have heard of those extreme 255c through -85c temp "instant" readings before; it seems that they usually crop up with the programs that log the temperatures, but that is mostly conjecture. (Could just as easily be weird sensor readings, if only for an instant, like you said.)

If you're confident that your case has good airflow, and does it's job, then there is no issue there, thank god.

So, stripping away all the rest, I think we can safely say that your CPU temps are between 30 and 50, roughly. Nothing wrong with those numbers.

As for the rest, without tinkering, I'm not sure if we'll be able to know. Maybe the Motherboard manufacturer would have some input?
