does a motherboard have limitations on ram speed?

I was planning on buying Corsair Dominator Platinum 16GB 2133MHz, but the motherboard I plan on purchasing, the ASUS Sabertooth Z87 lga 1150 said 1886 is the limit. I'm not sure if it means normal ram limits, and the corsair dominators are overclocked out of the box, or if I cannot buy that ram if i buy that motherboard.

The ram will work, just not at the advertised speed. I believe if you overclock the chipset and CPU, you can get it up to that speed. I don't recommend ram over 1866Mhz, the performance increase is very marginal and the extra price doesn't justify the slight performance. But yes, Both items should work together.

Question is, does that extra ram speed make much of a difference?
