old 775 motherboard and compatibility

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00864946&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&jumpid=reg_r1002_usen_c-001_title_r0001&lc=en&product=3359920#N121 hello, i have this oem hp computer and under the motherboard it said its compatible with intel core 2 duo E6x00 upgrades. now that there are newer processors with the same socket (not new, but newER) are the E8x00 series compatible? should it require a bios update or is this just a risk i might take?. because i can pick up an intel core 2 duo E8400 for under 30 dollars and it would make the world of a difference considering my current processor. just wondering because if i could upgrade this pc for that price it would definately be worth it, also with some extra ram and a cheap gpu like the radeon 6570.

No, I think E8x00 series processor will not work regardless both of them being the same socket. Upgrading RAM will enhance some performance of your system and so does adding the GPU. But if you are looking for a "faster CPU" then I think its better to go with a newer system

Yeah, I've got a plenty fast ivy bridge i5 system I was just wondering if I was able to get that performance boost for 27 dollars because then it would really be worth it and it would make a good secondary system (especially for a sibling of mine)
