Does sending in a dead GPU require the original box?

I'm about to build a new PC, and one of the components that I'm most worried about is the GPU. Let's say it dies in a few months, so I contact the manufacturer (Gigabyte in my case). When I return the GPU, do I need the original box that I purchased it in? I don't usually like to keep PC component boxes lying around because I don't have that much free space in my place, so I want to know if this box needs to be kept in particular.

The retail store or newegg would want the box back in 30 day return. The vendor wants only the bad card. Most rma cards are sent in a plain brown box to you. The only box I would save in the mb and CPU box. If the pins are damaged both the mb and CPU vendors won't take them back.

Always keep your boxes, they have serial info on them and should you need to send it back you already have a box that fits.

I recommend keeping the box for a while.
