Need help deciphering HWMonitor output

Hi, I was hoping that someone could look over the results from HWMonitor and basically let me know if my PC is functioning within the normal ranges of my hardware(mainly the CPU).

I have a feeling that something isn't right, but I may just be expecting more than what my current hardware can deliver. I'm not sure if I should cut and paste the info or what, as it's pretty long.

I built this PC a few months ago, with a ton of advice from the great community here, and it's a beast! I love it and I'm grateful for all the advice on the best parts available within my budget range. I'm just not sure I did everything correctly to get the most performance when setting it up.

Also, my RAM shows as 1333 although it is 1600. Can I fix that?

  1. You should be able to change your RAM clock in the BIOS Setup.... unless your motherboard has it locked(shaded out). Best to just post your info in a wall o' text here and if someone feels froggy enough to read all of it, maybe be able to offer some advice.

    Ok, thanks. I actually changed it in BIOS and then decided not to save it just in case it could be detrimental as I wasn't sure if forcing it to 1600 was safe or not. Thanks for the info, I'll adjust that.

  3. Most of this data is useless to me(memory register addresses etc...) but, I don't see anything that screams "help me" in here. You likely won't "feel" any difference when you change your RAM clock either. Is there something specific happening that clued you into looking down this road?

    Well, a couple of things had me worried. The RAM not being properly recognized was one of them. I'm also worried that my fan/heatsink isn't cooling my processor well enough. If my heatsink isn't cooling my cpu properly, would that effectively gimp my processing power? I'm not exactly sure about the correlation there. I noticed that the temp readings for "TMPIN2" are normally 20 degrees hotter than "TMPIN0" and "TMPIN1", as noted below:

    Temperature 0 38°C (100°F) [0x26] (TMPIN0)
    Temperature 1 29°C (84°F) [0x1D] (TMPIN1)
    Temperature 2 49°C (120°F) [0x31] (TMPIN2)

    I seem to be averaging a temp of around 52°C on "TMPIN2" when simply idling with no programs or games running. 50°C without a load just seems really high to me, especially when all other temps are in the 30°C neighborhood. Should I not be worried about the current average temps or do you think I should purchase a new fan/heatsink?

  5. It might be only a little bit high but, you have a small overclock enabled on the CPU also. If you are using a stock or under-weight heatsink/fan for your CPU, this can be expected. That being said... 49-52C idle should be giving you a solid 20-30 degrees of overhead under load. Most CPU's won't begin to throttle until temps over 75C are reached. maybe someone else with an AMD FX-6300 CPU can chime in about operating temps. I'm more familiar with Intel chips. The last AMD CPU I had was a Slot A 700MHz Thunderbird =D. What heat-sink/fan are you using? What are your temps when you disable the OC?

    Man, to be perfectly honest, I had no idea that it was overclocked or how it got that way. I did find a friend screwing with my settings the other day...that's the only thing I can think of. I've set a password on windows since then, for that reason. Would you happen to know how I can disable the overclocking?

    I have a cheap cooler master fan/heatsink. I'm planning on buying the evo 212 from newegg asap, and im sure that will knock the temps down a bit further. My current one certainly isn't adequate for any kind of overclocking.

    Also, I saw in bios that the pc is set to shut down if the cpu hits 75. I am assuming that it has not reached that temp as I haven't had any crashes or unexpected shut downs.

I know this CPU has a turbo mode(Overclocks by itself when needed in real time from 3.5GHz to 4.1GHz) and typically you disable all turbo modes when running any overclock, for stability.
    I am hoping an AMD CPU user will respond in here to confirm this. And maybe determine what the default multiplier and Bus should be at. 19*184 = 3496 and 19*185= 3515 so you may need a multiplier and bus clock change to get right at 3500.

    Thanks a lot for the info, man. I'm going to see if I can get it straightened out. I've never overclocked so im not real familiar with adjusting these settings. I really appreciate your help with this. :)
  10. That stock fan is what I would consider underweight for that CPU. You will get much better temps under load when you get the EVO in there.

    Was your friend using a windows program to change your settings or was he in the BIOS/Setup of your PC?
  11. Windows, when I saw him...but he had been there for an hour or so and I wouldnt put it passed him to "help" me out by overclocking my pc.
