I've just built my first computer from scratch and everything bar the graphics card is working perfectly. I have an AMD Radeon 7870 HD core edition, link below if you need anymore than that.

I'm currently running on my motherboard graphics, and everything is in perfect working order. I have visited AMD's website and downloaded the latest drivers for my card, the options I chose, which I'm fairly sure are correct, were
Desktop -> Radeon HD series -> Radeon 7XXX series PCIe -> Windows 7 - 64 bit

When I plug my HDMI cable into the graphics card I get no output to any devices

I'm a little confused as to what power the card needs. My understanding was that it needs a 6 pin PCIe connection only provided it is not working in crossfire, but perhaps this is where I am going wrong? I have also tried connecting 2 6 pin PCIe's to no avail. On the card there is an 8 pin socket on the left of a 6 pin and I have no 8 pin connecters.

In device manager I have searched for the card as a display adapter but the onboard graphics is the only one listed. Can anyone help me sort this out? Thanks a lot

In terms of the unused power cables, I have two PCIe 6 slot female connections and they are also on the same wire as a 2 slot connection, though I dont quite know the purpose of that, it didn't fit when I tried to put all three in, though that may have just been me being incompetent, I could try that again?

Currently the fan on the card is working if that is of any help at all.
