I took out the Pentium 4 2.8 and put in a Pentium d 3.4. At first I got a warning then the next time it booted rite up and dxdiag shows the new cpu. Do I have to do anything else or is that it? I had to change the clock speed on an amd once.
Sounds good, just look in the BIOS make sure it's identified correctly, with a new CPU, be prepared for Win to ask you to authenticate...maybe, won't always may may want to keep your Key handy

Concur with Tradesman1. That's usually it. Provided your motherboard has properly identified the CPU and timed it accordingly, you're all finished. If not, then there are usually BIOS settings which you can use to manually set clock speeds.
