Pretty sure my psu blew since it smelled like it was on fire and my PC wouldn't start. (PSU was a cheap 500w).
I'm going to be orderinv a new system, but I would like to know if how i can check if my graphics card is damaged/broken as I don't have another PC to use.

one way to cruedly chech your psu is to take a paper clip and put one end into the green wire opening on the 24 pin mobo connector and the other end into a black wire. if the fans spin up your psu is likely to be good.

Oh yeah.. That's exactly what happens when a power supply fails. I had one fail on me last year. Mine didn't take anything with it though. Hopefully yours didn't either. Unfortunately there is no way for you to check your other hardware. You need a new power supply to do any testing at all. I recommend a Corsair brand power supply. They aren't exactly too expensive and they are top notch quality. I say you should invest in http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139021 one like that because although you might not need that much power right now it gives you room to grow and gives you something you can really count on.
