Hello guys,
i have a nvidia 9600 GT (3 years old) card and for the past 3 years it has serviced me quite well as i could run all games to 2012 in high setting but nowdays some games seems to make the card freeze and turns the whole screen into pixelated green or purple or both

I heard that this is a sign of dying card but i am not sure if my card really is dying for the following reason

1.i can play some games on high settings for as long as i want like batman arkham city or hitman absolution on high setting and my card hits tem 75c under full load in those games and my screen NEVER turns green or purple

2.my card idles at 55c(in 32c room temp) and i heard its quite normal for an old model card

also if this was a overheating problem why doesn't my pc freeze when playing arkham city or hitman?

for now it freezes on recent games such as deadpool, remeber me,resident evil 6

and also my card froze 2 year ago when i tried to play spiderman web of shadows and didnt play that game since then

so i am guessing a certain effect is causing this?????

Solution
I think it comes from the shadow effects any time I've ran them on HIGH it has caused the game to crash exactly as you described. I don't have this issue on any other game. limit the frames to 30 and put the shadows down to medium hopefully that helps.

Had the same problem and it'd freeze in the same games (Deadpool, resident evil 6) it froze in arkham city a few times too. Replaced the GPU and everything fine
