NVIDIA GPU for $250

Hello folks,

Thanks to Tomshardware forum, I've turned quite into a system builder with quite some people seeking my advice and asking me to assemble their rigs.

Here's a GPU requirement I can't really decide upon:

Equipment:

■ Intel 4430 CPU
■ MSI Z87-G43 Mobo
■ BenQ XL2411T - 120 Hz 24" 1080p Display

Requirements (all on single monitor @ 1080p):

■ Skyrim (Eyecandy: optional)
■ Just Cause 2 (Eyecandy: required)
■ Max Payne 3 (Eyecandy: optional)
■ Assassin's Creed III (Eyecandy: mandatory)
■ Fifa 2013 (Eyecandy: optional)
■ Crysis & BF - won't like to play

What would be the best GPU?

■ NVIDIA (sorry AMD fanboys)
■ PCIe 3.0 & DVI-Dual Link Support
■ $250 (USD)

Nvidia only has one current generation card in that price range ... GTX 760.

Yes, it runs a lot loader and hotter, you should really wait a few days and make up another $10 so you can get the Asus or the MSI.

Thanks for the info, I'd not like the GPU to scream and make its presence felt. I think, I'd go with the MSI one since the mobo is also an MSI make.
Do you think I'd be able to add another 760 in SLI sometime later? The MSI Z87-G43's specs say that it supports crossfire, and doesn't mention SLI anywhere. It does have 2 PCIe 3 slots though.

I could but it wouldn't work very well, do you already have that motherboard? If not I would highly recomend you getting something like the Asus
Z87-PLUS or a MSI
Z87-G45 Gaming with 2x PCIe 16 gen 3 (x16/dual x8) because the Z87-G43 has one PCIe Gen 3 x16 and one PCIe Gen 2 x16 (x4), x4 means it only runs at a fraction of the speed (well really it means you can use 4 lanes instead of 16 but w/e) and it's gen 2 so it's half the speed again.

Too bad, the mobo cannot be changed (for now). Perhaps, some years hence I could opt for a GTX-760 with SLI-ready Mobo (Combo) deal.
BTW, I hope my choice of 760 is now good. Thanks a lot for all the feedback.

Hey, I sent the MSI-Z87-G43 back and ordered the MSI-Z87-G45 instead. I'm a delighted chap now. Thanks to you!!
After a year, I'll add another GTX-760 in SLI. Does the make of the GPU needs to be the same for SLI? I mean, can I SLI an MSI-760 with an Asus-760?

Yeah, it's a much better motherboard, I'm glad everything worked out! The make of the card doesn't matter, and since the cooling properties of both cards are the same it matters even less because you can set them to the same clock speed easily.

I have ordered the MSI one, but haven't received it yet. The ASUS (most people think) is supposed to be cooler and quieter, but who knows. I opted for the MSI because it would match well with the mobo (I mean the brown colour scheme). Besides, I plan to put the card inside a silent pc case like the Obsidian 550D or Fractal Design Define R4.
