I have a pc that I haven't used in about 2 years but it is 5 years old and 5 years ago I could play the current games smoothly on medium to high settings. Its a Dell and that's about all I know could I upgrade it for around 100 dollars so It could run current games on medium settings. Or should I get more details before considering an upgrade price and If I can upgrade it. The games it played well was empire total war, Civilization 5, and it played stronghold 2 on the highest settings.

Solution
Pre-built computers are hard to upgrade because the case usually offers extremely little room to work with.
That being said, it might be best to just build a new one and salvage the optical drive and perhaps the HDD from it.

thanks man another question tho lol.
how much would building a new one cost if I only wanted to upgrade the cpu, graphics card and ram?

That depends. Prices can vary a lot depending on what you want it to do.
I would just think of a budget for yourself instead of getting others to think of the budget for you.
However, it may not even fit in your old Dell case. It's best to give us a link to your pc, otherwise we can't really help you.
