Hey all,

I have temporarily moved and while my electricity outlets are grounded, when I plug in my brand new surge protector the word "Grounded" Is brightly lit with an orange light, while the "Protected" light is green, but very, very dim, almost to say that it isn't protected (maybe it's normally dim, I have no clue). But if I am ONLY grounded and not protected, what does that mean? Is my hardware in any danger? Please let me know.

Solution
Let's start with grounded:

Outlets have 3 plugs, a hot, a neutral, and a ground. The ground (bottom) and the neutral prong go to the exact same place and do the same thing, they provide a direct path to the ground. Now, the grounded prong is a little more special. It connects directly to the metal casing so in the case a live wire inside the box is touching it, you won't get a potentially fatal shock.

As far as the protected light, if we assume that it is NOT protected, then that just means if you experience a power surge, then that surge protector is about as good as just a power strip - you're devices run a high chance of being fried.
