I have a Gigabyte GA-870a-UD3 motherboard with a AMD Phenom II x4 965 processor and want to upgrade, I would go intel 4770k but atm money is tight, I was wondering if I can replace the phenom with a AMD FX-8350 because the motherboard/cpu I have is AMD3 and the 8350 is AMD3+? Also my little brother has a AMD FX-4100 and it's bottlenecking his GTX 660 ti ftw+ and was wondering if he could use my old cpu (x4 965) with his motherboard GA-970a and if it would help his at all?

Thanks for the reply! Guess i'll have to spend some more money and get a motherboard too, Now the question is would the II x4 965 be an improvement over the FX 4100? Guess i'll look into amd motherboards, I wanted a i7 but it's alot more expensive for motherboard and cpu

The FX 4100 is a notoriously bad gaming CPU in most situations. The x4 965 is generally a better choice.

Check out an i5 if you are just using it for gaming. The Hyperthreading the i7 offers does help a bit in a very few games like BF3 multiplayer and Crysis 3 but the i5 is your best choice for a gaming CPU unless you have a pretty much unlimited budget.

Well I'll probably put off the cpu upgrade for alittle while than and go intel since I have to buy a motherboard either way. Probably black friday in november it should go on sale. My little brother can just get a FX 8350 on his current motherboard though right?
