6+2 and 6 pin PCIe connector on same bridge

Hi there,

I just bought a new GPU SAPPHIRE 100311-3L Radeon HD 6970 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 which requires an 8 pin and 6 pin power connector. I have a 700 watt PSU that currently provides a 6+2 connector and a 6 pin connector. However, I noticed that these are on the same bridge. That is to say, there are only 6 wires going back into the psu from the 6 pin connector. Off of the 6 pin connector the 6+2 connector is plugged into that. I assume since the PSU manufacturer did that it's fine to plug that 6+2 and 6 pin both into my gpu but I'm hesitant because I can't find a straight answer online. Is it okay to use both the 6+2 and the 6 pin connector? Or can I only use one or the other because of some kind of dedicated 12 v rail issue (what I've been trying to figure out.) The gpu comes with a molex adapter so I can turn 2 4 molex pins into an 8 pin pcie adapter but I really don't want to do that unless necessary. Any help or suggestions are much appreciated!

Minus the red dongle in this image it kind of looks like this except backwards. Where the 6+2 is plugged into the 6 pin and 6 wires leading to the psu : http://store.antec.com/productimages/Standards/root/PCI-E%208p%20-%202pcie.jpg

Thanks!

what make and model is the psu? If it is a good quality one with thick enough wires, it should work just fine.
You could just try it out and if the wires dont get hot when the card is under load and the card isn't crashing or anything, it's working fine.
