i recently bought pretty much a whole system off my friend well everything but the gpu and he had only just built it although the case was filth. So I got a new case and pieced it all together and now it will not boot. The fans run for a second or two almost enough to believe its starting then dies. I have tried everything in my knowledge and that I feel completely comfortable with. So I have taken it all apart and back together making sure there's no short circuiting done one stick or ram and all that but ye same result I have read through all the posts but I need one persons voice straight to me.

Specs:

i5 - 3570k
8gb ripjawz
1 tb hdd
gigabyte ga-77-ds3h
powercool 550w
Sharkoon t9

thanks for reading if you did im pretty stuck

did you use risers behind the motherboard? so that the mobo doesn't short on the case.

also, use the "paperclip test" on the PSU to make sure it's still good, but typically when they die, they don't work at all.

Test it w/ just 1 stick of RAM at a time. test each stick in each slot 1 at a time.

maybe ur friend tried OC'ing the CPU and fried it? can u try it in another PC?

I have checked the motherboard once and there was one dodgy standoff (by the way i used the standoff/risers) but even then the same outcome and have used 1 stick of ram and on all the different slots 1&3 and 2&4.

I don't think he oc'd it at all i think it was a new build but if he has fried it then words are going to be said. I have the small system speaker but it isnt beeping either which could probably be down to my fault but still i don't know.
